Meet Miss O

Get to Know Ms. Olivia Lou Yao

An ABA therapist since 2008, Olivia has devoted herself to helping every child reach their full potential through her compassionate and professional attitude. Her Masters degree in Education specializing in Special Education brought her to California and Arizona becoming credentialed in both mild-moderate and moderate-severe disabilities in the states. A strong proponent for parent education, Olivia believes in empowering parents in order to help them help their children reach their utmost potential and to be independent. Today, she still continues her tireless pursuit in the understanding of special education as the field of autism evolves.

Seeing both the parents and children’s need to communicate and be understood in a world where their diagnosis is often ostracizing was what inspired Olivia to pursue her virtuous career. After observing the many frustrations and challenges of children diagnosed with autism, along with the frustrations of parents who needed to understand their new reality, she began intuitively addressing those challenges in a compassionate and respectful, and holistic way. After her success in helping countless families, numerous children, parents, educators, administrators, and other professionals in the field responded with overwhelming praise and recognition of her ability to communicate, educate and help those who became her clients or students.

After over a decade’s worth of experience working with individuals with special needs, she moved to the Philippines to further her studies even more by obtaining her PhD in Educational Leadership and Management. Seeing a need for a professional parent education service provider, she established the Responsible Roots Parents Center: A home-based intervention program focused on empowering parents and primary caregivers through education and consistent application. Her aim was to bridge the gap between home, school, and in-clinic therapies to give the child consistency in all environments. Trained in Pivotal Response Treatment, Discrete Trial Therapy, TEACCH, PODDS, MEPPS, PECS, and so much more, she continues to provide excellent therapy to children and families in need.

Her ability to offer home based services support parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder/PDD-NOS, down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other disabilities, enables her to build a relationship with all members of the family. By fostering this relationship, parents, grandparents, and siblings feel empowered to understand and communicate with their family member diagnosed with special needs in a new meaningful way.
